To ensure the success of TERC’s future research, key learnings from previous air quality research in Texas must be summarized, and their implications for policy and regulations discerned. Two previous synthesis projects, one on particulates and the other on transport, have previously been conducted under TERC funding. Since those studies were completed, TERC and other institutions such as the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Air Research Center (TARC) have initiated several new studies of relevance to the SIP. The results of these new studies are synthesized, along with more general research in the air quality scientific literature of relevance to TexAQS 2006 and/or the SIP. The latter includes all studies that have analyzed or made use of data from TxAQS 2000. The research summarized is complex and multi-disciplinary, hence multiple investigators collaborate with the Principal Investigator on this project. The investigators represent a range of expertise, including the principal areas of emissions inventories, physico-chemical processes, monitoring, meteorology, and modeling. The results of this study are used to update the TERC Strategic Research Plan, and to prioritize future research projects.
