RFGA-12 Awards
As a result of the Request for Grant Applications 12 "Proof-of-Concept Testing to Evaluate NOx Reductions in Hybrid Truck and Bus Applications", the following four project proposals have been selected for funding:
Oshkosh Truck - Series Hybrid refuse Truck$301,575
Oshkosh Truck Corporation (Oshkosh) proposes to use its innovative ProPulse® hybrid electric technology already incorporated into a series hybrid electric refuse vehicle and the expertise of Cummins control engineers to develop a vehicle emission control strategy that will achieve a 40% reduction in NOx emissions over that of a conventional refuse vehicle.
West Virginia University/ISE Corporation - Optimized Diesel Electric Bus$407,692
West Virginia University (WVU) with ISE Corporation proposes to optimize and test a 40-foot diesel hybrid-electric transit bus that is already under development by ISE. The bus will use a series architecture and will offer NOx reduction through regenerative braking, engine downsizing, electric auxiliaries, and control of engine operation.
West Virginia University/ITEC - Configuration and Characterization of International Hybrid Drive Vocational Trucks$482,347
International Truck and Engine Company, working with West Virginia University, wish to optimize the NOx reduction from their Durastar hybrid, and verify the NOx reductions using representative cycles with the ultimate goal of marketing the hybrid trucks for four separate vocations in Texas.
Eaton Hydraulics - Hybrid hydraulic Shuttle Bus$499,974
The overall objective of this proposal is to use the core technology of the HLA system to develop and field test shuttle bus vehicles equipped with pre-production parallel hybrid hydraulic Eaton HLA systems. These vehicles would be placed into real world shuttle bus service in Texas for approximately one year. In addition, Emissions Verification Testing will be done on one of the vehicles.

Funding for these projects is provided by the State of Texas through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
