The overall objective of the Strategic Technology Assessment project is to quantify, by engine and equipment type, engines that emit NOx in the Houston-Galveston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas. Such an inventory is essential to understanding technologies to reduce diesel emissions and their compatibility with the existing diesel engine inventory in our non-attainment areas. Specific focus will be given to the operational limitations of various emissions control solutions and identification of operational characteristics of the existing diesel engine inventory in the Houston/Galveston and Dallas/Ft. Worth areas. The Strategic Technology Assessment is the first of its kind in terms of level of detail, number of engine types, variety of operators, and the breadth and depth of the control technology assessment. The study will provide an extensive assessment of potential emission reductions for a wide range of existing and developing technologies. ERG has gathered a team of experts in diesel engine inventory development and control assessment to conduct the study. In addition to ERG’s emission inventory staff, the team includes diesel control experts from Emisstar LLC, and Sam Wells, a consultant with extensive expertise assessing intermodal facility operations in Texas.
