Verification Testing of a 50% NOx Emissions Reduction Kit for Marine EMD Diesel Engines
This proposal presents a plan to conduct a one-year durability test of the complementary emission reduction combination that provided a 54% NOx reduction with similar significant reductions in PM, THC and CO emission levels from a 3000 hp, EMD 12-710 marine diesel engine. The durability test will be conducted on a work boat owned by Ingram Barge operating in normal revenue service on the Mississippi River. The emission reduction components consist of low NOx fuel injectors and a “V-Cat” pre-turbo diesel oxidation catalyst. The injectors and catalyst elements will be periodically removed from the boat and sent to Southwest Research Institute who will conduct emissions testing of these components at 0, 6, and 12 months on a similar engine at their facility.
