It is anticipated that $6,500,000 will be awarded for 15 to 25 projects ranging from $100,000 to $750,000.
Applications are being requested for projects to expedite the commercialization of new and innovative emission reduction technologies, particularly focused on oxides of nitrogen emissions (NOx), as part of the State of Texas' New Technology Research and Development (NTRD) program. This request is to solicit applications for funding to address the following areas:
- Development and verification testing of engine upgrade or retrofit kits for existing engines.
This category includes, but is not limited to, upgrades to the base engine, engine add-on devices, or engine overhaul kits. Any proposed projects should include EPA or CARB verification in the scope of work (SOW). The management and advisors of the NTRD program have decided that EPA verification will be given preference in evaluating potential projects. - Development and verification testing of exhaust gas treatment devices for retrofitting existing engines.
The primary focus of this category is on alternatives to urea based Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologies. This includes, but is not limited to, NOx storage and conversion devices. Any proposed projects should include EPA or CARB verification in the scope of work (SOW). The management and advisors of the NTRD program have decided that EPA verification will be given preference in evaluating potential projects. - Development, proof of concept testing, and verification of novel NOx reduction technologies for new or existing diesel engines.
A broad range of technologies could fit this category including, but not limited, to:- Novel combustion methods and their related enabling technologies that significantly reduce NOx emissions from diesel engines.
- Technologies that reduce off-cycle emissions such as those from engine idling.
- Vehicle or drive-train technologies that can directly or indirectly reduce NOx emissions through engine duty cycle modification.
Projects proposed in response to this RFGA should target one or more of the following diesel engine categories: On-road heavy duty, off-road heavy duty, construction, marine, locomotive, and airport or marine port service equipment. Projects proposed in response to this RFGA should result in minimum NOx reductions of 25% compared to the certified emissions levels of the target engine or application. Additionally, products resulting from the proposed projects must be commercially available in the State of Texas as soon as practicable, but no later than five years after the date of the application for funding.
For the purposes of this RFGA, the following funding conditions apply:
- This request for grant applications is part of the State of Texas' New Technology Research and Development (NTRD) program. The NTRD program provides funds for projects related to reductions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). Projects funded by this program should advance technology that can be offered for sale in the state of Texas in less than five years after grant award.
