This project develops and tests a new methodology for creating a revised inventory or locomotive NOx emissions in Houston. Recent modeling and inventory efforts have revealed large uncertainty in the NOx emissions for the railroad and locomotive emissions. Recent estimates range from 30-80 tons/day of NOx in and around the industrial areas of Houston. Because locomotives emit a large quantity of NOx and the fact that it is emitted in close proximity to large VOC sources has led us to single out this project as particularly important.
